There is a new system of thought developed keeping the age as a hurdle to doing yoga though it is not mentioned anywhere in the Patanjali yoga Sastra. The great sage only mentions the Asanas, how to do them, what is the required duration of each Asana. The Sastra nowhere talks about the age to do certain Asanas.
But, the so-called modern Yogis in order to win popularity are mentioning totally weird limitations on practicing yoga. They classify certain yoga Asanas meant for certain age group only and certain Asanas for some other Age group. They also classify Asanas to be performed by Girls, ladies, and women. This type of cynical attitude making the readers totally confused and they are feeling it better avoid doing such Asanas which has no universal practical approach.
The only principle we have to keep in mind while doing Asanas is practiced them one after the other. Take one Asana practice it for a certain period and then switch over to some other Asanas and then practice it. After getting good control over the selected Asanas group them into a cycle and repeat the cycle in No.1, 2, 3, depending upon your stamina and availability of time. This is the basic principle one should keep in mind.

It almost sounds discriminatory. Surely, yoga can be modified for various age groups if need be.
