This is my 7 year old grandson. He became interested in hockey due to going to games and watching games on TV with his dad, my older son.
When he was two years old, he begged the hockey coach to let him play hockey. He told the coach that he was ice skating at the time, which was a plus. He also told the coach that he was a big boy and didn't wear diapers.
As a result, the coach put him on the team with the 6-8 year olds, but they were too rough, so that ended.
Now, he is ready and is back on the team. He takes hockey lessons, guitar lessons, science classes, an art class, taekwondo, and religious school. I don't know how he does it all, but he loves it!

That is a lot of lessons my granddaughter Syd does a lot like that too. I just hope they have plenty of time to just be kids, it lasts such a short time.

@BelleStarr The kids are very busy, but do have lots of friends. They see them after sports and activities on weekends. Lots of birthday parties, sleepovers, playdates, and visits to friends and family events. No wonder their parents are exhausted! Lol! During the week, after practices, it's strictly homework, pleasure reading, a bit of relaxation playing games, and listening to music. They all adjust. It's good to expose the kids to as much as possible while they are young. Living in Manhattan is wonderful for them.

that is wonderful there. My son was in hockey and played for awhile. Then his knees acted up.I drag him and the girls to all the hockey games
I thought that will be upset. But they loved it and after that every weekend was a ritual for the family for a night of hockey and fun.
Then football games was next. The only thing they hated was the baseball games.LoL

Hockey is big around here, but my kids never got into it. Their favorite sport is soccer, which sadly isn't very big in this area.

We'll have to think of an ice name for him . . . we have the Ice Princess, but I don't know if he would like being called the Ice Prince
. He's ready for the big boy team now! He's such a talented, smart kid. I hope he has an awesome hockey season - doin' what he loves!

@much2say No. lol! My granddaughter takes lessons in New Jersey three times a week now, and uses my grandson's rink for early morning practices. He skates there after school and whenever the games are held. They can't win in their family. To top things off, my dil is thinking of going back to work now. Help!!!

A clear case of beyond the classroom phenomena. What one learns outside of a classroom is what would help a child in his life eventually. Wonder what your grandson would finally turn up as.

Not really. Lol! They do keep busy, but my granddaughter is pretty good in figure skating, but not so good in tap dancing. My grandson needs the eye hand coordination. It's good to expose the kids to many things to see if they will develop an interest. It sure beats sitting on the couch watching TV or playing video games nonstop.

@DianneN It is, once they get interested in outdoor activities they become brighter and as you say sure beats sitting all day in front of the computer.

What an adventurous young man. Is he brother to the figure skating girl? On all accounts I'm happy he didn't get discouraged with hockey

The second time is always better. Kids just bounce right back. The foundation seems very well set.He is going to grow up into a wonderful human being. When I read of this I can see a very well balance child. Congrats to him and especially his family that supports him. Again, you have a great family!

Oh my gosh how adorable it must have been to see a little two year old out there trying to play. I would have been a nervous weeks that he would get hurt playing with such older kids so that's good he stopped and waited until now that he is older. That is wonderful he is so interested in doing all these activities. My son is not social at all I couldn't even get him to join boy scouts.

Really talented and skillful kid. But you have to trim that got to many many branches because the concentration of fruit is everywhere and some night rot. So I guess he need to choose 2 or 3 for his concentration.

That is great. I am glad that he went back to playing a sport that he loves. He has a lot of his plate but that seems to be what kids like. They like to keep busy and they are always eager to learn and take part in new things.
