I stayed up ALL DAY for nothing.

Okay, so yes it was my choice to order my phone online. I realize this, and I realize there are certain sacrifices one must make when ordering their phone online. I knew that I would have to be prepared to stay up all day to wait on my phone. This isn't my "first rodeo". I've ordered a phone online before. When the "thank you for ordering" email came in, I was not surprised to see that the package would require a signature. I waited until they said it was on it's way, and then I waited until an estimated day was announced. That day was Wednesday. I wake up at five pm (technically tuesday) or thereabouts as I work third shift. I tried to get some more sleep later in that day. Once at 1 am and then again at 4 but it did no good. I couldn't sleep more than five minutes. So I resigned myself to staying up all day. The estimated time of delivery was set between 3:45 to 7 pm. I didn't quite trust that estimate, and didn't want to risk putting all my trust in that estimate. So I stayed up, keeping an ear out for the door. 3:30 came around and nothing, then 3:45 knocked and still nothing. Hours passed and it wasn't until 6:30 that I hear the UPS truck on our road and am finally jumping for joy. I knew that in under an hour I could go to sleep, after setting up my new phone and giving it it's first charge. I wait by the door for a knock or the ringing of the doorbell. Nothing. I opened the door as the man was halfway down the driveway, my phone sitting in it's protective box on the front porch. "No Signature?" I called out. "No Signature." He confirmed. "You know I've been up 12 hours because i was under the impression that I had to sign?" I say He gives me a sympathetic look and an "Oh boy" and gets back in his truck to drive off. UPS didn't, per se, give me the impression I needed to sign. It was the phone carrier itself that emailed me about being sure I (or someone else) was around to sign. Needless to say I wrote a post on their facebook wall suggesting that they reevaluate their automated messaged and ensure that misleading information is not being given. I know the email I received was automated. I was kind in my wording, and even suggested that that fault might not lay solely on them. I did express my frustration at staying up the entire day. I took a nap after setting my phone up. The nap lasted only two hours. I knew my body wouldn't let me sleep any more than that because it is not used to sleeping at that time of night.

Irregardless of needing a signature or not, why do they not even knock on the door to see if someone is home before leaving it sitting there?! Plus, it's also possible you did have to sign and he faked a generic signature before he even left it!

I don't know why my response didn't show up. I responded yesterday. I hadn't thought of him forging my signature, it's possible...

I hate when that happens. You would think ordering a phone it'll require signature confirmation right? I hope you enjoy your new phone though!

I've barely used it really, but I do like it. Yes, you would think so. I live in a safe neighborhood, but what if I had not? He just left it on the porch.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yes luckily you do live in a safe neighborhood but I am sure if something happened - the company you purchased had bought insurance? But it'd be a big hassle.

So sorry to hear that you had to stay up whole day for such a thing. At least you got your phone.

Yes. I didn't mind staying up, I just didn't like that I stayed up for no reason.

How frustrating and tiring that must have been. That's one reason I order most things from Amazon or somewhere else with good tracking. They tell me by when something will arrive and when and where it was delivered. Sometimes things arrive earlier than expected, but at least I know it. I hope you can catch up on your sleep tomorrow.

I will be going to sleep here in just a few hours. I will most definitely be catching up on my sleep, that's for sure. I tend to buy from places with verifiable shipping as well. It wasn't that I didn't have good tracking, it's just that the window of it's arrival was too broad.

We have bought phones online and the delivery arrival is always the worst part waiting all day not sure when they'll arrive and if there's a delay you wasted time for nothing. One time we ordered some phones and it was supposed to arrive on a Friday morning but we had freezing temps so it got delayed and we didn't get them til like the Tuesday after we were pretty angry. We try to buy them in store now.

I would have been mad in that situation too. You have to essentially rearrange things to ensure that it gets to you. I know UPS you can pick the item up at a facility, atleast that's what it suggests online.

I had not thought of him faking a signature. I wonder how many times that happens...

Geez I thought you were going to say the phone didn't come! That would have really ticked me off!

I would have called and made sure it got to me. Even if someone had to use their personal vehicle to get it to me!

I wrote them a message. I will say what they have to say to it.
