Here's a question for you to ponder and answer! Nah, don't answer, just enjoy this next song from my list of favorite songs that have a who, what, or why question in the title. And, before I begin, this song is not related to a certain classic rock album. Here it is.
#2: Who's Next? - Tom Lehrer
Nope. Not the album by The Who.
Ah, Tom Lehrer. A mathematical genius (he taught at MIT and worked in the US Army's National Security Agency) who also had a wicked sense of humor, he combined teaching and music for a career that stands head and shoulders above just about every other satirist in US history. No less than Doctor Demento said Lehrer is the greatest satirist we've ever had, and trust me, that guy has listened to them all.
Here he deals with the biggest issue of the Cold War: "nuclear proliferation." If you didn't grow up in the 60s you don't know about "duck and cover" (yeah, that small wooden desk is gonna protect you from radiation!) and those ugly-as-sin black and yellow "fallout shelter" signs. As a result, you may not find this song all that funny.
Tom Lehrer also did songs for The Electric Company (such as "L-Y" and "Silent E"). He is still alive, at the age of 88, but he has retired from both teaching and musical performing.
But oh, what hilarious songs he gave us during his career.

He is an absolute riot, which is the best thing you can have in satire. My favorite song of his is probably "International Brotherhood Week." My best friend is partial to "Poisoning Pigeons in the Park."
And everyone loves "Vatican Rag"!!!!

Sort of the like the original Weird Al Yankovic, Allen Sherman was a popular 1960's song parody artist. Here he is on network TV (Hollywood Palace ABC-TV) in...
