people at bus stops, waiting for buses

I like looking at people who are waiting for buses. Maybe that makes me weird.
There are those who don't need one bus which is trundling by. Some cheerfully shake their heads to let the driver know they don't need him to stop. Some stare intently at their phone as if they're concentrating on something of huge importance. Others get a crick in their neck from too long spent staring at the bus timetable. And let's not forget the rude folk who let the bus stop, allow the doors to open and just stare glumly, acknowledging nothing.
When they do need the bus which approaches they also adopt different strategies. There's the woman who steps forward, sticks her arm out and then steps back, as if all the people there before her need her help in getting the bus to stop. At busy stops the crowd surges forward, all the niceties of the Great British Queueing System forgotten as they jostle to be the first on so they can get that one remaining seat. Some decide that fifteen minutes of waiting is not time best spent ensuring they have their ticket or some money; they don't start the panicky fumbles till they spy the bus coming, and then everybody has to impatiently wait whilst they sheepishly grin and say sorry, and then have to mutter apologies again when they drop their loose change all over the floor, and watch it roll down the aisle and under passengers' feet ...
Time to go. Enjoy your day!

@Poppylicious even i have to take the bus to work every morning. The problem is that despite having a timetable the bus is never on time. And they don't stick to one route. Sometimes drivers take the routes that they desire

@Nawsheen They'd most likely get the sack if they did that over here!

I have no choice but to like it, as I can't drive. I don't mind. When you use buses regularly you get to know the ones that are always late or always full, so for them to be on time and have seats is often a very pleasant novelty!

@Poppylicious The drivers are very kind to stop in case someone wants the bus. Some nights they might have almost empty buses and they skip the stops when no one is there.

That's usually the case here as well. But often they will stop if someone is at the stop just to make sure they don't want THAT bus.

I probably know as much as you do ... although London is only seventy-ish miles away, it may as well be the other side of Europe. Some of our students seemed a little worried, but that's to be expected. Thank you for asking. :)

I am just glad I don't have to worry about the etiquette of waiting for the bus here... There's not many bus stops around my area anymore.

We're quite lucky and have a fairly good public transport infrastructure, even if we do spend most of our time grumbling about it!

People watching is my favourite spectator sport. I can sit in the mall and watch the people pass by. I can create stories for them...some don't need stories....some are just bizarre.

I can too! If it were an Olympic sport I think I'd win a medal. :)

I can't drive, and it would be a LONG walk to work if I couldn't catch a bus!

@ShifaLk A little motorbike or moped? I wouldn't mind that, but I'd be petrified every time I went out on it!

I queue for buses a lot, often looking at my watch or phone's clock to see how late from timetable time it is actually arriving

I'm guilty of playing games on my phone whilst waiting for the bus ... but I wouldn't ignore a kindly bus driver who stopped his bus for me, just in case!

I like those too. And watching/listening to the people who share my bus space oxygen. :)
