What I Learned in High School

I learned a very important lesson about life at G.A.R. Memorial High School in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and this lesson is very relevant today. I learned how to be a peacemaker, and find common ground with people even when we disagree. This lesson can help us solve the national problems we face today. The school colors are Blue and Gray and the colors symbolize the effort to achieve national unity after the Civil War. We desperately need peacemakers who can bring the country together, and achieve national unity in our era. I look for the good in people and find it easy to get along with people. The country is divided down the middle, and it is the most furious division since the Civil War. We desperately need peacemakers who can help bring the country together instead of throwing gasoline on the fire. This is the very lesson I learned in high school. In my column at this web site, I have written about Hillary Clinton and Martin Luther King II, who have played the role of peacemaker and are trying to bring the country together. What is your view of this situation? Can the simple lessons from high school help to solve national problems even today? Will the peacemakers ultimately bring the country together?
