In honor of the misadventures of one of our favorite myLot members I'm doing a countdown of my favorite songs dealing with being drunk or a hangover. And, for today's song, we turn to America's favorite pot smoker for a song.
#8: Whiskey River - Johnny Bush
Sorry, Willie, but I heard Johnny Bush do this long before I heard you do it.
I always say Willie's a great songwriter but a lousy singer, and here that is clearly evident in the way the great Texas singer Johnny Bush delivers Nelson's song with agony and conviction.
Willie has a long list of great songs about being drunk or getting drunk (a more recent favorite is "I Didn't Come Here And I Ain't Leavin'," and there's the classic "Bloody Mary Morning"), and there's another song he wrote that'll show up later. For right now, enjoy the terrific voice of Johnny Bush singing one of Willie's best known songs.
Whiskey River
Written by Willie Nelson
Recorded by Johnny Bush

I was going to say how much I like Jon Butcher's version, but after listening to this, they share a title only. Great song (both, not just that one!)

Lots of songs out there share a title. I did that to you with "Fox on the Run" -- the bluegrass song, not the Sweet song.

I wonder how many people dream of a whiskey river.
