Today is "Earth Day" . On this day it is encouraged to turn of the non-essential lights from 8:30 - 9:30 pm to show your commitment towards the earth. This event is termed to be the "Lights Off Event. I guess it was started in Australia, and now celebrated all over the world. So how many of you are going to participate? I want to participate. How about you?

i can relate. i feel like a security guard doing regular rounds here, checking lights, electric fans, exhaust fans, faucets, and the toilets. sometimes even the fridge door is open by an inch.

idea is nice but i dont like to make it as a day celebration or so, i prefer to make thie light off everyday at home or work when we are done put off, but to make it a event for one day a year is not something lieke to do, why should any body make a day for this thing

This is something which should be practiced daily, and one day celebration is required to make people aware of the fact. So that more and more people come to know about this, and thus try practicing it by them. Thats all.. Won't you agree with me on this?

One hour sounds like nothing, but at least it's something. The event is needed in order to raise awareness of the importance of environment.

Exactly, this one hour is needed to raise awareness, so that people practice this regularly. Every year if 2% of the people join this event and 10% of them keeps practicing it regularly that is only huge.

There is no announcement from the city government. I am sure no one will do it here. I lights off if it is not being used at home.

@abhinalstrikr Right Sir. The contribution of today is just nothing but making you aware of the importance of saving lights and nothing more. Saving an hour of electricity won't help much, but our understanding will.
