America: The culture of gradual stupidity

With grammar like that, I think that we all need to take a few night classes. Have you ever seen the Wheel Of Fortune clip, where the participant has only one letter left in the phrase " A street car na_ed Desire"? Do you know what this man said " naked" instead of "named"? I do not think stupidity should be considered a culture. We really seriously need to start making book reading apart of our lifestyles again.

I think it is rather snottish of you to assume just because someone had never heard of it that they are 'stupid'. In fact, I think it is rather stupid of you. And it is 'a part', not 'apart'. 'Apart' means 'not together'.

Have you ever been on Wheel of Fortune? Or have you ever been in a tense situation where you have to give an answer but are nervous? Have you ever made a mistake? I am sure you have. I am also willing to bet that man was nervous, he was "on the line", and said what came to his mind first. He wasn't "stupid" for his answer. I agree that it would not hurt for people to read more. Not JUST Americans though.. everyone. It is not JUST Americans whom have begun to "shorthand" things. I have seen Latinos do it. Using "Ke" instead of "Que" for instance. You can not condemn one nation on a "dumbing down" of Language.

I have been in all sorts of situations and despite my ability to do exceptionally well in some of them, I don't think that's the point. It's actually a clip going around, and i don't know the exact statistics, but for a powerful country our education system is one of the worst. All in all, I thought the clip was funny at first. So As I decided typing I thought of all of the situations in our media where someone said something that was not too smart. Now you may be a little angry and think that this post was not too smart of me, but I am opinionated and entitled to my opinion. I'm human, If I want to say something I say it, I will just anticipate a sudden backlash from here on out. Please don't let my discussions cause you too much anger. They are just Mylot discussions. Freedom of Speech applies to me the same way it does the gentleman in the clip.

@stacysdeadright Don't make the mistake that 'freedom of speech' and myLot have any association, because they don't. Freedom of speech in the USA actually refers to the freedom to say something without the government censoring you, and not the freedom to actually say anything anywhere at all. myLot's word filter and discussion guidelines are pretty much evidence of that. Then as well, just because a person is 'free' to say something doesn't always mean they should...I bite my tongue here often...and then again, just as often I don't. It's part of my irresistible charm.
