The San Diego Padres who are not expected to contend this year to make a playoff run have selected right handed starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin for the Padres first game versus the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles California. Chacin signed a one year, $1,75 million dollar contract on December 20, 2016 after his contract with Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim expired at the end of the 2016 Major League Baseball season. The Padres are in rebuilding mode in 2017 so it makes sense to send Chacin as their Opening Day starting pitcher on April 3, 2017.

That shows how bad the Padres are. Chacin was awful for the Angels last season.

The Padres are so bad they do not have a prayer to make it to the playoffs this year.
