With a shout out to @JohnRoberts for reminding me that baseball season is getting underway today, I read in this morning's paper that the Texas Rangers are placing a new Single A team at the ball park the next big town over. The park has been without a professional team since the Cleveland Indians pulled their Single A team out five years ago.
The new team is the Down East Wood Ducks. Their home opener will be April 10th and I'm sure it will be well attended. I won't be able to make it as my missus and I will be camping that weekend.
I have many fond memories of visiting the ball park with my boys on various occasions with friends, with the Scouts, of just us. Whether the home team won or lost, it was always a good time.
Do you have a major or minor league team that plays near you? Are you a fan?

We really are not fans of any sports. Too busy with what we are doing right now to get involved.

@DWDavis We try to keep up with the local names so we can at least understand what someone is talking about. That's about it these days.

I am a Colorado Rockies fan. Saw a couple hundred games when I lived in Denver. Fun times.

@teamfreak16 It doesn't seem like it's been that long ago. Time sure has flown.

@DWDavis - 1993. They played in the old Mile High Stadium. I saw every team at least once.

I used to be a big time Baltimore fan - since I was born there. But where we live the only games on TV are Atlanta and I'm not a fan of theirs, wrong league!

@AbbyGreenhill I would not want to have to drive anywhere in, around, or near Atlanta right now. I wonder if they've found a motive for why the guy started the fire.

@DWDavis They have a brand new stadium that will be impossible to get to with the highway issues right now.

I just bought tickets to see the Oakland A's play my beloved Yankees in NYC over Memorial Day weekend! I'll be taking my kids to see NYC for the first time. Very excited about the trip!

@DWDavis I sure hope so! I'm as excited about taking them as they are about going! I've been to NYC dozens of times, so I know what an awesome place it is. It's going to be nice to finally be able to share those experiences with the kids!

Despite the presence of two big league teams in the area, there are the Single A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.

@JohnRoberts There is that. A night for four of us at Grainger Stadium, including a concession stand meal and a souvenir each is less than an ticket for one to some big league parks.

There's a team in Pensacola called the Blue Wahoo's. I never went to a game when we lived there but they had a nice stadium. When I lived in Oregon there was a minor league team that my first grade custodian played for called the Volcanos or something.
I've seen plenty of Mariners games live, but I don't know if I would say I was a fan.

I remember driving past the Wahoo's stadium when we visited my son while he was stationed at P-cola. I never saw the Mariners play when I was stationed at Fort Lewis, but my buddies and I would occasionally go to see the minor league team in Tacoma play. I don't even remember what they were called.

@DWDavis There was a lot of backlash againt the stadium when it was first built. I don't think I had moved to town when it went up yet, or it went up right after I moved to town. But either way it's a good stadium. I didn't even know Tacoma had a team.

@thislittlepennyearns I think the team was the Tacoma Tigers when I was stationed there in the early 1980s. They are the Tacoma Raniers now, a Triple-A affiliate of the Mariners.

You certainly enjoy baseball in the USA. We do not have it to the same degree here!

I think the Cubs have a minor league team in a county due west of Chicago, I have never been but might have to give that a go.

@DWDavis I would say 60 or 70 miles I know my son went to one of their games some years ago.
