The University of South Carolina women's basketball team won their first NCAA basketball championship in the history of their school on Sunday evening when they defeated the Mississippi State University Bulldogs by a final score of 67-55. South Carolina coach Dawn Staley is now the second Black female coach to win a women's basketball championship. Dawn now joins former Purdue Boilmakers coach Carolyn Peck as a minority coach that has won one NCAA Division I women's basketball championship. The Gamecocks end the 2016-17 basketball season with a record of 33 wins and four losses while Mississippi State ends their basketball season with a record of 34 wins and five losses.

That is pretty good since I thought the Lady Huskies would win another title this year.

Great college, pro and US Olympian player. She has earned her place in history now as a coach.

If you would have told me the Gamecocks would be basketball champions at the end of this year I would have told you "You must be an optimist."
