Tomorrow we have got an important festival. This is SRI RAM NAVAMI . This festival is celebrated all over India. This is the birthday of Rama. This is a spring Hindu festival very important for Vaishnavaites. This is not a National festival but still celebrated all over India, mostly in U.P and Bihar states of India. Navami means No.9. The ninth day of bright half of Hindu Calendar month of Chaitra.is the day the festival is celebrated and as per Gregorian calendar it falls in the months between March and April. Navami is not auspicious as per Hindu tradition. But, the birth of Rama has taken place on this day. So there is no such thing as sacred or unsacred for this day. Similarly Lord Krishna was born on Amavasya which is also not good as per tradition. Still, it is celebrated as a festival in the name of JANMASHTAMI. All Gods have taken birth on bad days and at bad time only to chastise the bad people. On Srirama Navami people listen to the stories associated with Lord Sri Rama and sing songs. Some people do Bhajans in Temples. People distribute water mixing Jaggery, candy sugar water liberally. These will be prepared in separate large containers and will be kept outside the temples. Anybody can go and have this drink. Some people donate Jaggery for this purpose. My brother-in-law donated 150 k.gs of Jaggery this time for the purpose.
