He will always be looked upon as the bartender and owner of the fictitious bar Cheers in the TV series of the same name. Ted Danson was born on December 29, 1947 and became popular when he took the role of Sam Malone in the TV sitcom “Cheers” which ran from 1982 to 1992 and introduced us to a lot of talented actors and actresses. To me Ted Danson might not have been the most handsome actors I ever saw but he certainly had a very special kind of charisma. It just projected from the screen. I absolutely loved him in the movie “Three Men and a Baby”. Danson’s life began in San Diego, California. He studied drama at Carnegie Mellon University and after graduating had a role in the 1970s soap opera Somerset. He also go roles in various commercials until finally he got his calling when they started casting for “Cheers”. By the time the first season ended Danson was a star and everyone knew the words to the theme song “Where Everybody Knows Your Name”. The show had a great cast of talented people among them Woody Harrelson as Woody Boyd, a not too bright bartender, the mailman who knew it all Cliff Clavin by John Ratzenberger, beer hoisting Norm Peterson by George Wendt, feisty waitress Carla by Rhea Perlman and psychiatrist Fraser Crane by Kelsey Grammer. During the long run of this popular show Sam has many off and on again relationships with waitress Diane Chambers by Shelley Long and with businesswoman Rebecca Howe by Kirstie Alley. Cheers ran for an amazing 11 seasons and during this time I am sure many were hoping to find just such a friendly and enjoyable bar in their neighborhoods. The show won 28 Emmy Awards and when it came to the final episode on May 20, 1993 over 80 million viewers were glued to their TV screens. After Cheers ended Danson took the role of a cranky doctor in TV sitcom “Becker” and later was on “CSI”. He has had roles in many movie as well like “Three Men and a Baby” with Tom Selleck and Steve Guttenberg. There was also a second movie “Three Men and a Little Lady”.
