Your Worst Storm?

I am a teacher and my class had some changes in routine today (not good with the type of students I teach) and to further the changes in routine we had a tornado warning. We had to take precautions and fortunately we did not receive the tornado...just a bad storm. I was wondering what is the worst storm you have ever experienced? I have lived in Florida for over 30 years and I really have not had any terrible experiences with hurricanes, we never received a direct hit. However, we did get hit with a tornado many years ago when my family and I lived in a mobile home. We were fortunate it was not a big twister as it surely would have tore our abode apart. As it was, it scared us half to death and tore off our roof...peeled it back like the lid on a sardine can. I have seen some minimal hurricane force winds but that was not as terrifying as the tornado. What is the worst storm you have witnessed?

2005 when Hurricanes Cindy and Katrina hit the New Orleans area. Cindy did some damage in the suburbs and the city of New Orleans but Katrina did flood the area big time.

I didn't suffer through it but I'll never forget Katrina and how awful the damage appeared on tv...I know that area took a terrible hit.

@Jon2071 Katrina was really bad. The flooding affected the Greater New Orleans area for weeks.

Florida is a tornado/hurricane prone area. People certainly have to live through these disasters.

Yes, it is and I have been very fortunate to have not gone through a really bad hurricane. The worst experience I had with a hurricane was actually not the storm itself, but the after effects when we went two weeks without power...it was hot and humid after the storm without any ac.

The worst I was ever in wasn't actually the storm but the aftereffects. When I was in Ohio Hurricane Ike struck Florida and we had 90 MPH winds up north. My sister and I were driving home from my dad's and I saw a power line spark, hit the gas as hard as I could, and raced under it as it fell across the road. Our transformer blew and we were without power for 10 days. Lots of wreckage and damage from that wind! I normally love storms of all kinds but that one was just a little much! Despite living in the Midwest some of my adult life and growing up there, I have never been in a tornado nor have I seen one. I only heard the sirens as we retreated to the basement but they always missed my area.

Wow! That must have been very frightening. I'm glad you are were able to get through it okay. I love storms too, but not when they are that nasty.

That is so scary. I am so happy tornados do not hit here. My house would be gone in an instant. The worst storm we got was probably when we were in a swarm of rain, it was going sideways because the wind was so harsh and it blew out my mom's window. And another time was massive hailing and so many people had dents in there cars and someone's awning flipping to on top of their house.

Thanks GOD, there was only warning but nothing happened. I've never faced such in my life but yes I remember the earthquake last year in my inlaws place. The house is on the hills and I was so so much scared. But all was well.
