Last night I finished reading the Johnny Carson biography written by the man who was his lawyer for almost twenty years. The book showed many different sides of the comedian/television host that so many people invited into their homes each and every night.
He was a deeply troubled man, part self inflicted, and part due to the lack of attention and love from his mother. But he was still a very powerful and influential man, and at one time probably the most powerful man in Hollywood. He had little regard for money, and it was actually shown and said in the book several times how once he made enough money at something he became bored with it.
If you were a fan of Carson, it is worth reading. I for sure saw many sides of the man that I wasn't aware were there.

I think Carson enjoyed his power at NBC and quite frankly abused the network with his demands to see if he could get away with them.

@johnroberts the network abused him just as badly. It was a doomed marriage from the start

@thislittlepennyearns I think Carson came out way ahead of NBC. Amazing that he was the top cash cow at the network. You can't say that any any of them these days. I read in a Bob Hope bio that Carson couldn't stand Hope because Hope was the only person at NBC with more power.

That's sad. I think that most of the entertainment world suffers from this or similar afflictions and the need for attention and love drives them relentlessly. They are mentally ill, otherwise why the obsessive need for attention and approval? A lot of them are also charitable and I'm wondering if Mr. Carson was.

@dragon54u he was. Very much so. It was odd though.
