It Rained and Rained, by Huckleberry the Cat, Kitty Blogger

Huckleberry the Cat looking out the door after the rain
April 8, 2017 1:57pm CST
Many of you know by now that we had a lot of storms at my house the other day, but it’s all gone now. It rained and it rained, but I don’t care about that. I didn’t like that it thundered. Thunder is scary. Mama says it didn’t thunder too much, but I say any thunder is too much. She says the storms never got bad at our house, but twice she put me in the cat carrier in case we needed to take shelter, and twice she put me in the bathroom and made me stay there by myself in the dark with food, water, and my litter box. She wanted me accessible, she said. Honestly, just because it was nap time, and sometimes at nap time I choose not to let her know where I’m sleeping and I don’t answer when she calls and wakes me up for no good reason, that’s no excuse to say I’m inaccessible. Nap time is a very serious issue in this house, and is not to be taken lightly. Anyway, I was a very good boy as there was nothing else to do that day. I went right in the carrier both times without argument like the such-a-good-kitty that I am sometimes, and I didn’t grumble too much about staying there. Here I am between storms sitting on my scratcher rug, which is very dirty because my mama hasn’t swept it, looking out the window at all the water outside. By the way, I have lots of scratchers but the couch still works best. Sincerely, Huckleberry the Cat, Kitty Blogger Content and Photo © Huckleberry the Cat, Kitty Blogger, and Debbi Craton

Nap time seems to be about 17 hours per day for my cat. Then after that I am sleeping so not sure how many of the remaining hours he is up.

That sounds about right. An 8-10 hour nap is the bare minimum for my main nap of the day. Sincerely, Huckleberry the Cat

Dear Huckleberry, I'm glad that your house didn't float away. We have had a lot of rain here too and my mama says that the back yard was like a paddling pool. I don't know why anyone would want one in their back yard, but all I know was that the water was too cold for my paws. I stayed inside and napped too! - Sylf

Dear Sylf, I think that was a very wise decision. Great minds really do think alike. Your friend, Huckleberry the Cat

Good morning, Huck! As I know you are aware, I am observing the proper protocol and merely giving you a nose-sniff otherwise apparently ignoring you (though you will notice that my tail sticks straight up with a little curl at the end). I haven't heard this thing you call thunder much but I've heard fireworks and they were a bit scary at first till my who-man told me that they were ouside and therefore safe. I still thought it best to go into my place under the bed, though. All the best, Mephistopheles

@OldRoadsOnceTraveled The other day I was looking out of the window at some very heavy rain and I heard my human say, to my consternation, that it was "raining cats and dogs"! I looked and looked, but I couldn't see any other cats (who would be quite stupid to be out in that, in any case) and certainly no dogs. I don't think that humans are quite right in the head!

@owlwings Sometimes I really wonder what humans are thinking. What goes through those little heads? Sincerely, Huckleberry the Cat, Kitty Blogger

Dear Mephistopheles, Sending a sniff right back at you, but otherwise pretending you don't exist. It's the catly thing to do, and we have a reputation to uphold. My mama says that doesn't count on the internet and that I can even talk to dogs here, but I really don't think she understands what's at stake. Thunder is very much like fireworks except there usually aren't fireworks when it rains. It all seems rather pointless to me. But I agree. Under the bed is probably the best place to experience either if you have to. I would rather not have to put up with them at all. Sincerely, Huckleberry the Cat

Hey, Huck! Haven't met you before. Where do you hail from? =^..^=

I hail from my couch, of course. My human says to say I'm from Georgia, but I'm really from my couch.

No one likes storms here, but the cats and dogs really have a hard time with all the noise and the rain @OldRoadsOnceTraveled

@OldRoadsOnceTraveled The loud noises can be very upsetting. One of our little dogs hides under furniture.

@PatZAnthony That's a very good place to hide. Smart pup. I concur. Huckleberry the Cat

I don't mind the rain so much except when it interferes with the sun coming through the windows. But I do NOT like loud noises. Sincerely, Huckleberry the Cat, Kitty Blogger

Oh, my naps are a big deal. The Do Not Disturb sign goes up between 10 and noon, and I don't get up until 10 to 12 hours later. Very sincerely, Huckleberry the Cat

@paigea I think he is hyper or something. I thought he would out grow it, but he is about a year and a half now, so probably not.

My dearest Huckster, It never seems to work, but I tell the Human to turn the rain off. I don't understand why she can't. The only thing to do when it is all horrid and wet and thundery is to take a nap. It helps pass the time. I'm glad there is plenty of food and that like me, you have a couch to scratch. They are definitely the best although I do not understand what Humans have against us scratching them. Now I am off for another nap. The Human wonders why as I just slept on the bed alk night, but I am not telling. Have you caught a mouse yet? It is great fun. Love from Auntie Freya the Catblog Catxxxx

You can't beat the quality. It's sure better than corrugated cardboard and dollar store door mats. Sincerely, Huckleberry the Scratcher P.S. I don't care what my mama says, I do NOT need a mani-pedi.

Dearest Such-a-good-kitty Huckie - my thoughts: 1. From what my mom said, and I admit this is hard to admit, she and your mama are right about storms and especially tornadoes. This time I think we have to cut your mama some slack. 2. Nap times are serious and should never be mess with, except in emergency situations. 3. Couches are the best. No matter how many cat scratchers my mom buys, I still love the couch scratcher best. 4. My mom and I were very scared during your tornado threats and were so glad when the warnings stopped and you were safe. Luv, Auntie Mildred the Cat

Dear Auntie Mildred the Cat, You're sweet to worry, but it was really all fine except the thunder. I don't know what the big deal was about tornadoes and trees falling on houses and lightening starting house fires and all that stuff. My mama did miss some sleep, so I guess that's a bad thing, but she borrowed my couch and got one the next day. Sincerely, Huckleberry the Brave Such-a-Good-Kitty

Poor Huck. Nap time is the best way to wait out the bad storm and scary thunder.

Worked for me when the thunder didn't wake me up. I slept through a lot of it.
