How can US afford to fight 2 wars at the same time?

Instead of backing off from North Korea issue, US sends USS Carl Vinson strike group to North Korea region. This particular strike group has more than 60 aircraft and about 5,000 personnel. At the US-China meeting, Trump should have handed off the North Korea issue for China to handle. China has a lot to lose if North Korea starts a war. It has the money, people and military ability to control North Korea. How can US afford to fight both North Korea and Syria at the same time?
A US aircraft carrier-led strike group is headed toward the Western Pacific Ocean near the Korean Peninsula, a US defense official confirmed to CNN.

Full of potential. These countries have no Trump Towers yet, and after a war you need to rebuild. The major problem with Trump is that he is unpredictable. He is able to launch 2 wars without the agreement of the Congress. A war with North Korea would probably become soon a nuclear war, due to the personality of their dictator. Scary.

@topffer very scary prospect. I have started to sell off my shares as I monitor the situation. 1. After the Presidents of US and China meeting, Trump deploys USS Carl Vinson to Korea region, instead of continuing its journey to Australia. 2. China sends envoy to South Korea to discuss cooperation against North Korea. 3. North Korea says that it is ready for war against US. Apparently all 3 countries are ready for war. The magic date is 15 April. If nothing happens that day, then perhaps the threat of war is over.

@topffer yes, the biggest event for North Korea. It is the birthday of their former leader [grandfather of the current fat idiot], and they term it the "day of the sun." If the fat idiot wants to prove that he is better than his grandfather, he will do so during that day.

I think it is unlikely to have a war to North Korea so far. Perhaps it is just a kind of threat.

I think this time is a bit different. China has taken action too. According to Korea news, China has arranged for Wu Dawei for a 5 days visit to South Korea to discuss about the nuclear testing by North Korea. Since both US and China take action right after the meeting of both Presidents, this shows that North Korea issue is getting very serious. This young fat dictator is very unpredictable, very cruel and does not want a good relationship with China.
China's top nuclear envoy will visit South Korea this week to discuss North Korea's nuclear and missile threats and also meet with presidential candidates to get a glimpse into the policy direction going forward, diplomatic sources said Sunday.

Perhaps Trump has a large portfolio of companies in the defense industry. A war will make them rich, and in turn make him rich.

@scheng1 True, he does nothing unless he thinks it will profit him.

No money for public healthcare but the US government can always find money for a fight.

@boiboing True, that is always the case. It is not as if North Korea and Syria are sending their troops to US and attack US right now. US has to go all the way there to attack them!

@scheng1 I don't think a full scale two - front war will be lauched. In North Korea's case - just a threatening posture. In Syria's case - One time Retaliation for chemical attacks. But, Trump is impossible to predict

If only Trump takes action, then there is a possibility of him over-reacting. But China has also taken action. China has arranged for envoy to South Korea to discuss about co-operation against North Korea. Bear in mind that North Korea used to be a very close ally of China, this particular action is very significant. If North Korea does not take any action on 15 April, then the threat of war is over. 15 April is a very special day for North Korea.
