Today Is My Catch Up Day - April 12

I had a colonoscopy yesterday because I have a disease called Ulcerative colitis. I've had it for years and it is controlled by meds. I take pills daily and live a normal comfortable life. The only thing I need to do is have a colonoscopy every 5 years to let my doctor (Gastroenterologists) see what is going on in there - no biggie, just being prepared if something is wrong. So far so good. If you have ever had a colonoscopy you know there are two days of hell before the event, getting everything our of you bowels. That includes taking meds that force your bowels to empty, a lot of water drinking and no food whatsoever for the two days... A small bit of an uncomfortable event is worth it every 5 years to live a normal life. Today on Facebook my sister sent me this video below. She is my camping partner. Two years ago she found and bought a Coleman Product that is a camping port-a-potty. ( see the photo above - from the Coleman Co.) It has been used a few times while camping but always at night, never in the day. In the day time we walk to the Bathroom building not very far away from our tents – (maybe 5 minute walk). I think the only times we used it was when it was raining at night, normally if we have to pee at night we pee in the bush... It lives in the screen room of our tent, a plastic Coleman bucket with a handle and a tight cover, with a removable toilet seat, plastic bags to use in the bucket and we take kitty litter for the bottom of the plastic bag. Works like a charm. Today my sister sent me the video of a home made port-a-potty and it made me laugh. (yes she knew I was in the hospital yesterday) We should have known we could make one ourselves but I must admit its easier to spend $30 + tax and have one made for us and ready to use.. I will catch up here at myLot today, that is my only goal for the day.
Make a portable, emergency supply kit, that could save your tush during a natural disaster. Or at least, provide a little cushioning for it. Some quick links...

That's pretty cool, the worst part of camping is getting dressed in the middle of the night to go potty.

I've only had 1 scope, but I do remember the 2 days of prep ahead of it. And then being SO hungry on our way home that my husband stopped and got me a biscuit and a coffee from Timmies.

I known someone suffering from colitis too. However she was advised to have colonoscopies after every three years. She must always take the medicines and watch her diet to prevent flare ups. Well that is what she said

@PainsOnSlate i know that with colitis you can only be in remission. I hope they find a cure for that disease soon

@Nawsheen it would be nice if they could find a cure, but day to day I am very normal, I just take 4 pills a cay for it.

I think every country is different in the rules, It's 5 years here and where my sister lives its 10 years. In the over 10 years I've had it I've only had two flareups and my pharmacy has what I need if it happens again..I take my medicine faithfully!

I am sure you are relieved that the colonoscopy is over. That is nice that your sister was able to make you laugh. You have to continue the medicines or did the doctor prescribe new medicines?

I stay on the same meds, when it first started I had to try a few meds to get one that took care of my problem, I will be taking them my whole life.

@PainsOnSlate Will there be changes in the dosage?

@silvermist No I went through a lot of trials of meds and found one that works, I can take as many as I need if I have a flare up - to 8 to 10 a day but my normal dose is two in the morning and two at night - it keeps my body calm.

I don't think I'll be making a porta potty myself, either. That sounds like you had an uncomfortable couple of days, but as you say, you can stand it once every 5 years. Are there after effects, does it make you sore?

Not at all, I was a bit woozy for about 30 minutes after the event, I was awake but felt nothing, I actually watched the screen the Doctor watchers so I saw the whole thing but have no idea what I saw means, he (the Doctor) will tell me later - next April is my apt, which tell me what he saw looks good. By the time I got home I was feeling 100% me, I took it slow all day including a nap but today feel very normal.

That $30 one you can buy looks awesome! The diy one looks easy and cheap to make but I think I’d rather the one you can buy as it looks so tidy etc. The cat litter would make things heavier but would keep things from sloshing around and spilling etc! Also less odor! My mother had collitis when she was in her 20s. Not eating for two days would be pretty tough!

I would hope you never have one - and believe me if you need one it would not be the day you die.. I was surprised when diagnosed but its working out fine, it could be worse.

I often wondered if you set up near the bathrooms or not. I was kind of embarrassed to ask. Now I know how you work it. The Business Bucket seems to work.

@PainsOnSlate Quick and convenient. I never liked walking to the washrooms in the dark on the campgrounds myself. Glad you don't have to.

We usually while camping use the washrooms that are available all through the campground, but at night? We have always peed in the bush in the dark but now have the business bucket for emergencies and rain..
