I had a lot of physical exercise at work today, putting supplies together for my boss. I'm resting and recovering at the moment, and ready to post my next song on the list of my favorites with "high" or "low" in the title. Here it is.
#7: The Tide is High - Blondie
Too obvious? Too bad!
How could I not include this great Blondie classic? And yes, it's a cover. Blondie managed to take a then-14-year-old obscure reggae song and turn it into an international smash while putting their own spin on it. Of course, Blondie had something that the Paragons did not: Debbie Harry for a lead singer.
Sorry to be so obvious, captain. But it's just too good a song to ignore.
The Tide is High
Written by John Holt
Recorded by Blondie
From Autoamerican, 1980
(Originally by the Paragons, 1966)
I'm gonna be your number one:
