Detroit Lions starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, 29, whose current contract expires at the end of the 2018 football season would like to remain the quarterback of the Lions until he walks away from the game. There is one catch. The Lions management would like to sign him to a contract extension before he hits the free agent trail before the end of the 2018 football season. The question is will Stafford be worthy to command a huge salary to lead the team that has never played or won a Super Bowl? The Lions management realizes that Stafford who has been in the league since he was a first round in the 2009 National Football League Draft out of the University of Georgia has been a pretty good quarterback through his career.

I know what you mean. The quarterback gets the praise or hate from the fans.

He's a good QB. Don't know if he's worthy of elite money if that's what he's looking for.

Matthew is not Peyton Manning or Eli Manning and Tom Brady but he has been successful in getting the Lions into the playoffs.

If he agrees to a modest contract.

That could be one reason he would leave the Lions if he wants to be paid like an elite quarterback.
