Are some TV drama series you watch a bit too complicated to follow?

Do you have trouble understanding the things people are saying on shows such as NCIS or Criminal Minds, because they talk too fast? Or does the complex nature of these shows seem a bit too difficult for you to fully understand? I have trouble with these shows. I watch them but at times I wish I could slow down their speed so I could get all the dialog. Is it that way with you or do you find most television shows either plain dumb or just too fast paced or are you more like those who like Jeopardy and can instantly give answers on such game shows? I wonder if I need to get the IQ ratings for certain television shows. Perhaps I have attention deficit but I find it hard sometimes to fully get all that is said and follow the fast pace of certain T.V. dramas based on dialog and tempo of the events that take place on these shows. What is your opinion of T.V. and do some television drama series go a bit over your head? If not, give me some ideas as to how to be able to get more from some shows I like but find a bit difficult to keep up with.

It is programs of that nature that really appeal to me. As for following the story, it has never been an issue for me at all.

I am the same way. I will not recommend some of the shows that I like to many people, though, because I know that many people do not like the more complicated shows that can be a bit more difficult to follow.

I am sure you are quite astute and have excellent hearing. But for me, I have some hearing loss due to my age and exposure to loud noise and loud music over the many years past. I really like NCIS and watch it every week even if I miss some of the dialog. Same goes for Criminal Minds.

My sister and I were discussing this problem when she came to visit last summer. We found that there is way too much mumbling and the talk too fast.

No, I don't find them too fast paced or difficult to follow most of the time. On the odd occasion that I do, I am usually sick and have a foggy head, so I just wait to watch them until I am feeling better. I do tend to think and talk quickly, so that is probably why I am able to keep up. You might try recording them and watching them from the recordings. That way, you can rewind if you do not catch something the first time. Also, you can turn on the captions if you do not find them distracting, which might help you to follow what they are saying easier. They are not always completely accurate, but they are good for the most part.

I do not watch a lot. When the BBC had "The Missing" I was amused they had to explain the plot to the viewers after every show.

I have to agree with AK if I'm not really interested in a show it gets hard to stay into it and not get confused.

I want to understand them but really I am busy thinking at the same time and sometimes my thoughts interfere with the dialog, and yes, the dialog gets drowned out by too much music and sound effects at times. The idea of recording them is a good one. That way I can play it back even watch it completely over again to fully get things.

Part of the problem is sound editing. Music and effects blast loud sometimes shadowing over dialogue which is at a lower pitch leaving you muttering what was that? There is more mumbling and speaking in almost whispers. Plus stories get boring or sidetracked causing you to get lulled and distracted then when something important happens you miss it.

I think that they speed some things up a bit too fast and that puts us a bit behind but usually I have no real problem

I have never had trouble on NCIS or Criminal Minds. There are some american movies where I have to look at the subtitles in Spanish, specially those about gangs that depict low schooling people.

I think it just depends on your interest in the TV show. I honestly think the less interested you are the harder it is to follow or understand.
