Farmer's Market Events. What would you like to see?

As most of you read from one of my other post I signed with an internship over my Easter Break. The internship is with a nonprofit organization that does the farmer's market in my hometown within walking distance of where most low-income families live. Their goal is to make veggies and fruits affordable for low-income families and teach them about these foods and other health related things. My job would be to plan/organize nutrition/health events to hold during the farmer's market. I have been coming up with some ideas for these events but I would like to know what other's would like to see and what they would find would be informational/educational at a farmer's market. These are some of the ideas I have jotted down in the last week or so: Cooking lesson featuring a certain veggie or several veggies they can get at the farmer's market. Of course, provide recipe cards for those who want to try the recipe and free samples of the food that were prepared to know if they like it before they buy & make it. Free dental screening/Free checkups that students from our community college could do. It will be a good learning experience for the students and it helps people out who can't afford to go to a dentist or doctor regularly. Yoga classes or have someone come in and show some workouts that can be done at home with no equipment. Have a nutritionist/dietician come in and take about MyPlate, portion sizes, the main nutrients (lipids, carbs, etc.), talk about the different kind of diets there are and the right and wrong ways to do them, maybe show these families how to shop healthy on a budget or make quick easy meals that are still healthy. Have them talk about the importance of lipids in a child's diets or other things related to kids. Have someone come in and talking about how important a healthy diet is and how many diseases are preventable/easy to control just with diet. Even though this isn't an event my mom goes to a Zumba class and I believe the woman has a card that gives the person either 7 or 14 free visits before they have to pay and see if she would be willing to let us hand them out at the farmer's market. Could also see if the woman would be willing to do a free class during the farmer's markets or discount for so long to people who came from the farmer's market (like if we gave cards or something like that to those people to give to her). The YMCA in town used to home free classes on certain nights and times for nonmembers and could find those dates out nd hand flyers out for it. I did think about self-defense classes because some people use them for workouts and to better their self-control/mind. It would be a good thing for people to learn and can keep them healthy. Maybe try to find someone to do free bike riding/rollerblading classes for kids. Have a doctor or nurse talk to them about the importance of good hygiene. Find a way to give out free toothbrushes, floss, toothpaste, mouthwash, body wash, etc. I thought about maybe seeing if some environmental dissucions would also work. Like composting, gorwing own foods (or at least what they can do living in the city), recycling, reusing kind of things. I did see a video on how to make your own veggie broth from left over veggie scraps that you collect from your toher veggies. I just really want some ideas from a large diverse group of people. I mostly just have college students to ask where I am at.

That's quite an impressive list of interesting subjects that would improve the welfare of people. What about making a handout of simple exercises that can be done at home to keep the whole body in shape and have an expert to demonstrate and get the shoppers involved?

I thought about this already but didn't list it. I thought of at home workouts that require no equipment.
