Before I explain why this song particularly came to mind today let me tell you a bit about this oldies song. “Needles and Pins” is a song that was recorded in 1964 by a group known as The Searchers. It was written by Jack Nitzsche and Sonny Bono. Yes, I know there will be those who will recognize the name Sonny Bono and it is that same guy that used to sing with Cher. The song has since been sung by many different singers in many different version but my favorite two were sung by The Searchers and by an English rock group called Smokie in 1977 and is the version I have included here.
Now the reason this song came to mind was because it was a pretty hectic day today and whenever I wanted to get online or take a break there was always something else to do. Even Sid kept running in and out since it was a sunny but windy kind of day. So I found myself singing quietly “ I saw a face today, it was a face I loved” and I was referring to Sid who was totally out of control due to the wind.
I thought to myself now where did these words suddenly come from and then I remembered the melody and that they came from this song thus my song association was born. Finally when my sinuses kicked in and I went to lie down a bit Sid settled down. As you can see he is once again lying in the cupboard with my sweaters probably to be sure that the wind cannot get him in there.
Who remembers this song and what kind of day did you have?

Jack Nitzsche became a movie songwriter and shared an Oscar for "Up Where We Belong" from "An Officer and a Gentleman."
