Nothing technical there. Just dig some pits in your property and let rainwater percolate in your own compound rather than let it flow to the sea - that simple. No doubt there are more sophisticated ways where roof water is collected in sumps and then pumped up to tanks for use. When rainwater seeps in your property it increases the water level of reservoirs. Imagine everyone doing it. There will be no water shortage at all. Apart from conserving water while consuming do you have any plans for rainwater harvesting?

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Is the water used from that pit? Fortunately very few area of NZ have water shortages.

This water gets filtered as it reaches reservoirs. The water from the pits is not used per se.

Rain water harvesting is must in cities. The water level increases considerably. Summer is best season to get harvesting piys read y. If all houses in an area does this water level increases.also theses pits should be renewed once every year

That's a great idea. Do we need to cover if it is full? I was thinking of the mosquitoes. It might stay here.

The water gets seeped and soaked in the soil and gets filtered and improves the levels of reservoirs.

There was a technology here back in my country, I just don't know if there's still using it or not.

Looks easy and practical but sad to say we can't do that here. We are living in a place where you can't have a backyard to plant vegetables or flowers.
