It shows her in the circus and her dad comes to see the show. I think it's a song about being hurt by her father, and that she's on display and he sees her at a distance like everyone else because he kept his distance from her.

I believe its about her father. I thought her father was not around when she was growing up? From the verse that was posted above... I get the feeling that she wishes she had that relationship, she's forgiving of what he's done, and she wants him in her life but "he won't be there." Either way... I LOVE the song. She is a very talented singer. I just wish she had more ballads like this one.
