Favorite 70's Rock Songs #4 - "Roundabout"

We are at #4 in my Favorite 70's Rock Songs series, inspired by a similar countdown done by @TRBRocks420 awhile back. The fourth spot belongs to "Roundabout" by Yes. Grammy-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame prog rock band Yes was formed in London in 1968 by vocalist Jon Anderson and bassist Chris Squire. Despite numerous lineup changes (19 musicians have called Yes home over the years; in fact, Squire is the only member to have appeared on all of the band's 21 studio albums,) a couple hiatuses, and Squire's 2015 death, the band is still going (albeit, there are two versions of the group out there right now, but it's still going.) Yes has sold more than 13 1/2 million albums in the US, AND minor planet 7707 was named Yes in honor of the band. From their classic 1971 double platinum album, Fragile, "Roundabout," at over eight minutes long, is prog rock at it's finest. How they managed to edit this and still keep it great, I have no idea, but a shortened version reached #13 on the Billboard Hot 100. A BMI Award was won by Anderson and guitarist Steve Howe for writing "Roundabout," which is basically about a Scottish trip from Aberdeen to Glasgow while the band was on tour. Anderson estimates that about 40 roundabouts were encountered during the route, so he and Howe simply began writing about what they saw as the tour bus rolled along. The result was one of the best tunes that Yes ever did. Enjoy! (Info verified by Wikipedia)

I'd quite forgotten about Yes. These days I tend to stick to Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd isn't a bad one to stick with.

A couple of decades ago, I heard a recording of this song performed by a symphony. I'll see if I can track it down when I'm not using my phone.

You remember when rock albums used to win rewards, now they barely win anything. lol Always thought this was a very cool song. Love the classic sound of the bass on this with the keyboards.

That's another one of those songs from the "old FM rock" days I wish got more airplay today. One of our courses pipes in 70s album rock, and this is a great song to putt to!

Playing this would mean one less spin of "Another Brick in the Wall," which I do like, but it's overplayed.

@JohnRoberts - With Yes. He played for Chris Squire. Who else could play those nasty bass riffs?
