Just Watched "My Suicide" On Netflix

My Suicide that is on Netflix is quite disturbing... but mostly to those who do not suffer from mental illness. The funny thing is that I had not even heard about this movie until it was talked about on my local news. I believe the media does more harm that it does good in society. There are some things that they should just not report on because there are people out there who may not have been thinking about these things and learn about it.... then think about acting on it. I don't know... I've struggled with suicidal thoughts most of my life. I have self-harmed as a teenager and young adult but I myself did not self-harm. Confused? You see, I have multiple personality disorder and it really sucks to live life with this disorder. But, I have learned to live with it. I had my weekly therapy appt. today and these days are always hard on me. Maybe today was not the day for me to watch that film on Netflix because now I'm fixated on wanting to know more.

Thank you :-) It is a constant fight that most people don't understand and I agree that there should be more coverage on mental illness but it should be done in a different manner and not in a way that seem to glamorize it through these kinds of films. It is because of the media's perception of MPD that people get the wrong idea of what having this disorder is like. That is why I take it upon myself to try and educate people as to whatr it is really like to live with it.

We need these shows and movies.. for awareness. Not for people to learn bad things from.

Awareness and understanding is always a good thing. But there will be others who will be inspired by it instead of being deterred by it. Especially if they already are struggling with mental issues. I say this because of my own experience and I'm not alone.

@Courtlynn These shows are only bad in their depiction of the actual illness, If they would just spend time and talk to someone with these disorders they would have a better understanding and perhaps be able to truly educate in a more positive light.

You have a positive outlook concerning this disorder and your life. I think people should be made more aware of those issues

I think there should probably be more good coverage of mental issues in the media.

I agree. I just think there needs to be a better way to educate people about it that won't trigger those urges in people who are already struggling. I do talk about my mental disability because I want people to understand what it is like and I want to break the many false and hurtful stigmas that are out there. When I tell people I have multiple personality disorder with 14 different altar personalities... the first thing they tend to refer it to is the way it ha been shown through the media in movies and it is nothing like that at all.

Is it my impression, or is this subject it's kind like a "trendy" these days?

Yes I do. Ever since I was a teenager... just did not know what it was back then. I was diagnosed in my 20's when I was hospitalized.

Kuttu, I wrote an article about what it is like to live with this. I write and talk about it in order to educate people and so that I can be accepted for who I am without all the false stigmas in the way that the media portrays it. If people are interested in reading it I will post it here as well.
