We are at #6 in my Favorite "( )" Songs series, which is songs with parentheses in the title. The parentheses must contain actual lyrics, not things such as "(Part 2)" or "(The Vampire Song.)" Be sure to check out the country and rock versions of this by @FourWalls as well. The 6th spot belongs to "(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear)" by Blondie. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's Blondie was formed by vocalist Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein in New York City in 1974, and despite lineup changes and a lengthy hiatus, are still at it. Pioneers of American new wave, Blondie has sold over 40 million records worldwide, and are the only American band to have a #1 hit in three different decades (70's, 80's, and 90's) in the UK. From their 1978 album, Plastic Letters, "(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear" reached #10 in the UK, although the song was not released as a single in the US. It was written by bassist Gary Valentine for his girlfriend, actress/journalist Lisa Jane Persky. "(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear)" has been covered by both Tracey Ullman and Annie Lennox. Not quite as classic as Blondie tunes such as "Heart of Glass," or "Rapture," "(I'm Always Touched by Your) Presence, Dear" is still a solid piece of the band's Hall of Fame catalog. Enjoy!
