In a shocking move for me at least, the Buffalo Bills management have fired general manager Doug Whaley on Sunday.
Whaley had been the general manager of the Buffalo Bills from May 2013 through May 2017.
Even though Whaley had worked ten years with the Pittsburgh Steelers front office and three years with Bills front office before he became general manager f the Bills in 2013 succeeding Buddy Nix, the Bills did not make it to the playoffs during the tenure of Whaley as their general manager.
When the Bills hired former Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott to succeed Rex Ryan as the Buffalo Bills head coach in 2017, the Bills decided to release Whaley since he could not get along with McDermott on making decisions on the direction of the football team.
So Bills owner Terry Pegula decided to terminate Whaley on Sunday since it would have impractical to fire McDermott before he was given the chance to make his head coaching debut in 2017 with the Bills.
Pegula will be searching for the next general manager of the Bills. The likely scenario is that the new general manager will have to get along with McDermott.
Strange way of running a football team in terms of a chain of command.

Fired their entire scouting staff, too. Bad timing: should've done that before they drafted people who'll give them another losing season.

And I thought the New York Jets management team was run by The Three Stooges.

In this case the general manager of the Bills falls on his sword instead of the first year coach of the football team.
