Is Marriage at first sight a good idea?

Philippines

This show was about a group of people helping singles out there to find them a suitable partner or match. Not to date, but to marry on the first day they meet. They don't meet their spouse except on that wedding day, which is shocking. They were all scared and excited. Not to mention weeks and months after the marriage things started to go ugly and see it on live TV. It's like a modern arrange marriage because it didn't involve dating or what ever. In my opinion, this is not really application to most people. But I wonder what could happen if such show would be imitate here in the Philippines. I bet the conservative groups like the church will go BALLISTIC on this. What is your opinion on this show? The first season one couple was able to pull through and renewed their vows.
Cody and Danielle sweat out the last few moments before their wedding in this clip from Season 5, Episode 1, "Wedding Prep". #MarriedAtFirstSight Subscribe f...

Hello @Hatley I guess this is for the people who are desperate for having a partner but feared they might make a mistake. So, they rely on the other people who are smart to choose for them.

This is crazy. I think before exchanging those vows at least a couple should start with the most primary thing which is loving one another.

@Letranknight2015 It is not right. Because you dont have an idea of the type of a person you are marring. You might land yourself into real trouble without your consent.

I don't believe in first sight marriage. That's totally wrong. We can see people who date for years can't stay together , then how is this possible? all these people just want to show on TV and become famous that's it , not at all serious.

Hello @prashu228 Well, they are adults and have different professions and if you watch the series, there's a couple there from season who really got it right after so many flaws.

I have great reservation in this arrangement. It is well known that these marriages surely are not of any good for either party. Ridiculous to me.

@Letranknight2015 Did they Letran? They were happy and turned out good? Well good for them then. Yes it is the 21st century. Even in old century any kind of marriage can be not lasting too.

Well, this is the 21st century and chances had always been 50/50 on this one. But some ended up alright.

i think this is just for cinematic purposes. i hope the couple will not separate in a few years time. if it is love eternal, they should stick to their marriage vows

Well, of course they are also doing it for ratings @ridingbet regardless if things were working out or not. Love grows mature I think once they've gotten through the crap they had with each other.

I think it is a stupid show.... Some people make such a big deal about gay marriage being legalized because it would ruin the meaning of marriage but then we create shows like this where complete strangers marry each other (even though it is probably fake & they meet beforehand). There is a show called married by mom and dad that might have some promise to it. Studies have shown that parents and really close friends know us best and are the most suitable to pick our partners. They are the outside view of your relationship and if your parents and close friends don't like the person you marry or disagree with it studies have shown that the relationship didn't last long so it is better to date someone your parents like. Now as long as the parents aren't just being jerks and purposely trying to ruin your relationship then you should listen to their gut feelings.

Hello @CaseyRoss9966 I think you haven't really seen this show, it's the experts and even a pastor that matches these singles for marriage. I mean the friends and families were totally shocked when they were finally told. Mom had that sort of resentment when my siblings had their own relationship.

@CaseyRoss9966 Well, thank you for letting me know. That's wrong Parents and friends don't know what your HEART wants.

@Letranknight2015 I know what the show is but there is another one called Married By Mom and Dad where the parents pick the partner for them to marry at first sight. Even if they are experts they don't know you like your mom and dad do. All they can do is the biologically/scientific size of it. This is a documentary done called Secret of the Sexes where professional and experts do a matchmaking service and based off of science who their perfect matches were and it didn't work out for any of them because there is more to. Don't get me wrong the experts had some good information and tips and some of the information was right but no one knows you better than your parents. We don't even know ourselves as well as we think.

I heard love in first sight not marriage on first sight. What I believe, even if it is arranged marriage, couples should get enough time to know each other before marriage. Then only it works.

@Letranknight2015 Yes, if there is love on first sight then that might be worth enough.

Hello @Sreekala well, first impressions last I think that's were the attraction started. Communication is indeed a good factor in keeping the relationship together.

don't you think this is all done to come up on TV so that they become famous, such shows happened here too, nothing went well after marriage , and they parted ways. Later on in some interviews the people who participated said that they all did that to become famous on TV , as they were trying hard to get into television industry ,but couldn't get success , so they choose this path..

Hello @Courtlynn It's not the first time it happened though before this show. But to most people it really doesn't work out. Wouldn't that make kids and grand kids feel envy if the story is told? lol

I watched the videos of the 3 couples., and its Ashley and Anthony whom I found to be attracted to each other in their first meeting. Marrying at first sight is something ridiculous. It is really a mixed emotion because you feel scared but then you also feel excited. I think , this kind of marriage will really won't work for long...

Many arranged marriages and mail order marriages are actually successful despite of the horror stories. While there are childhood/high school sweethearts that ends up in divorce.

I guess it shows us the mindset people should keep from 'before they meet their spouse' through the marriage until they die: you need to continually make yourself worthy of marriage ... whether your spouse is or not (though they'll need your help often, which a worthy spouse always gives). Keep doing that, and the marriage will be great (whether you like the spouse or not)! Right?
