Very dangerous prey!

I was sitting at my desk, reading a new book: Blood, Bullets, and Bones: the Story of Forensic Science from Sherlock Holmes to DNA.
(This has nothing to do with my story, but I might talk about it another time.)
Then I hear Gabby outside meowing.
Now, Gabby meowing isn't odd. Not even being outside and meowing. In fact, her insensate meowing is what got her being allowed outside in the first place.
No, this was the strange sound of her meow. It wasn't her normal, annoying, meow. This was a different, even more annoying meow.
I got up and went to see what it was. I had to turn on the front light, because I wasn't sure why it sounded so different.
When I leaned out the door, she opened her mouth to meow, and something fell out.
Ahhh! I think, she sounds different because she's meowing with her mouth shut - yes, cats can do that, just changes the sound...
But I didn't see what it was that fell out.
Gabby jumped down and sniffed around. I didn't see anything, like a moth or bug, fly away, all there was were a few leaves.
Now, this may be a first for Gabby, but I've seen other cats killing that very dangerous prey - the dead leaf - before. I suspect that she had killed and brought home her very own dead leaf to share with us.
I'm so proud.

Only thing I can think of that might have been within the leaves would have been a cricket @ElicBxn .
