As I drove home this afternoon, a pleasant, sunny Friday, I spotted one of these funny-looking vehicles pulled in at the side of the road on the outskirts of the village in which I live.
I know and love Google Maps, Google Earth, and Pegman, but had never seen one of the multi-colo(u)red Street View cars "in the flesh" before.
I wonder if I'll appear in the next release of Google's mapping marvel, zipping past in my little car?

@TiarasOceanView It is very good. Used to be, if you went somewhere on holiday for a week, it was a step into the unknown. Now you can not only see the view from the apartment in which you will be staying, but can find the nearest shops, best beach and navigate your way back to the train station or airport... Are we less adventurous as a result? I know not the answer.

I've never seen one. My Big Brother had his face blurred out; he's driving a car in Prague. I haven't looked for my house recently, but I do know I was really peeved the last time I looked because they came when my front garden was weedy and needed a good tidy up. Humpf.

THE cars probably collect all sorts of data, I have heard stories... . They do not peer into houses, but at times they have caught something they didn't intend, sometimes in a reflection in a window or on the side of a bus, or in a garden where the fence is low. There is a backpack version of the camera, and people have submitted walkable views of pedestrian areas, shopping malls, museums (where permitted), gardens, beaches, etc.
