I think Buffett sums up the role of all politicians very well. In response to questions about the Republicans, health bill, and free trade, Buffett ended by saying that free trade is good for the economy but politicians have to be ready to “take care of the people who become roadkill.”
Here's a recap of our blog from this year's Berkshire annual meeting.

Free trade is BS, only thing free about is rich people get lot of money. That being said, look at that comment and tell me how that is going to make society better. It is not, going to make society hate even more. These people do not get it and when their mansions burn down, maybe they will. Not condoning but people will do that .

If free trade does not result in deficit or surplus, then all countries will benefit. As it is, free trade hurts the countries with high income and benefits those countries with low income. Manufacturing jobs can return to US if the politicians give enough incentives to the companies. Nike shoes are expensive enough even when it is made in China and other low cost countries. There is no reason why the shoes cannot be made in US. Nike can still make a good profit even when the workers in US are paid more than the workers in Asia and Africa.

@crossbones27 Not easy way to go about it. Even if Trump wants to change the trade deficit with other countries, he has to make sure that US has goods that other countries want, and that the people there can afford. It is hard to imagine what US can sell to Africa, since the income level is so low that they hardly have enough to eat.

@scheng1 True and the thing is I have seen some innovations the African people make and is true genius. The problem is it is to get by and nothing to do with what corporate America wants which is still what the whole world follows sad to say. It is like these people can do that and you still do not hire them and if they do not pay them a living wage or work them all hours of the day. It sure is sad the mindset our leaders have.
