I Hate Being Ignored

My boyfriend ignores me when I'm talking. A lot. He's a gamer and he spends most his free time playing this online game called Fallen Earth. Apparently, interacting with all his online buddies is more important than listening to me. I am getting pretty fed up with constantly being ignored. We've been together nearly 10 years. I know people whose marriages have ended over this sort of thing. Maybe I should just start ignoring him all the time and see how he likes it.

My friend used to go and pull the electricity breaker and then pretend the electricity went out, sometimes all it takes is that being taken away to pay attention.

The electricity breaker is right next to his computer (it's in one of the bedrooms, which is an odd place to have it) so he would see me if I did that! Haha. I ended up talking to him about it so now he knows how I feel and is going to try to be better about paying attention to me.

I feel for you, and I don't blame you for being annoyed. Cory used to be like that to some degree but he isn't much anymore. I probably ignore him more than he does me at times. Just play sims and ignore him back when he wants your attention and let him know how it feels. Sometimes they don't understand what you go through until it's done to them. That's what I did to Cory, he rarely does that to me anymore.

@Srbageldog That's good. Miscommunication can be a big thing.

I ended up talking to him about it last night and it turns out he feels like I ignore him too! He didn't realize he's been upsetting me so I guess we're going to try to spend a bit more time together. He actually hung out with me last night after we talked. Which was nice.

@sissy15 Yep, and he and I both suck at communicating.

I hate being ignored too. I think you need to talk him about this concern.

Maybe it's just men's nature to ignore their partners. Yes, we'll get through this, as I'm sure there are worse things he could be doing! I do hope he eventually outgrows playing games.

I am a girl and I plays online games a lot. Your boyfriend is not ignoring you (I'm not defending your boyfriend), it's just that sometimes as a player we don't want to loose and we talked to friends online to discuss the strategies we need to take against our opponent's. That is my problem with my mom too when I am so focused on my games and she always said she will burn my computer. hahahha

I get that, but when he spends all his free time playing games and hardly ever talks to me, it starts to become a problem.

@Srbageldog I acknowledge it is really a problem most especially if we are leveling up or we are angry because we lost in a game we forgot the world around us even eating. Well, I'm guilty as charged.

@playerauctions I understand how consuming games can be. I get completely sucked in when I'm playing the Sims, and that's just something I play by myself. I imagine it's easier to lose track of everything when you're playing with other people and chatting with them. But, I've told him that I don't mind if he plays his game as long as he spends time with me a couple nights out of the week. I don't think that's too much to ask. :)
