At what age should you not go back to school?

I've been out of school for going on 6 years now. Several people tell me I am too old to go back to college. I'm only 22 years old and I've tried going to several different types of colleges and I always seem to get overwhelmed or discouraged from continuing. what experiences have you had that are similar?

thanks for the encouragement. I'd love to keep going but between my two little boys and work its very easy to get discouraged and even easier to just want to give up and quit

I don't think anyone has the right to tell you that you shouldn't go back. When I was in college the average age in my night class was over 30. You read about people going back to school in their 70's and 80's. 22 is not at all old. If you go back, when you graduate, you'll have the last laugh.

Don't listen to them. Go back to school. Some people just do not want anyone else to better themselves. I am 36 and I just started taking a math and computer class at our local college. You do what you need to do to take care of you!!!

You never to old to go back to school. You should do all you can to better yourself with education, you will get better job offers by having a higher education. You need to make sure you are concentrating on yourself as much as possible and leaving some of the work to others. I was never able to go to school with wanting to be at home with my children and work. You will go further if you learn to take time for yourself and be organized it will seem less stressful.

I don't think your ever too old for an education. I finally got my bachelors degree when I was 29! So don't listen to the negative people. Keep trying for an education. I found that I appreciated going to college more the older I was rather than when I first got out of high school.

There is never an age where youre too old to go back to school. No one else should ever try to discourage you from trying to better yourself. I am 19 right now and am to the point where I need to take a break from all the craziness. plus im trying to plan a wedding so i understand all the craziness. you'll finish school when youre good and ready to. good luck with all

I dont think it should matter what age you are, if you want to better your self thats the way you have to do it.. Good luck and all the best in life!

To be perfectly honest it was my husbands side of the family telling me that if I go back to school I'm neglecting my children!

I'm 27 and an ongoing student, you're never too old to expand your knowledge base for the possibility of making more money in the future, for anyone who says different, tell them you can't help it that they're closed minded. You have a right to an education.

I went back to college at 25. I know people who have gone back in their 60's. You are never too old to go back to school.

i don't think there is an age limit on school. i think if you want to learn and your 80 years old then more power to ya. many people go back to college later on in their lives. you're only 22 and you have many things ahead of you. i think you should try a community college if you haven't already. those are pretty good. you could also try online studies and at home studies. you can work at your own pace and it's just like you got the degree from a real college. i've always hated school so i probably won't go back to college. i dropped out when i was 17 and got my Ged a few months after dropping out. hard to believe i've been out of school for 2 years in may. good luck and i hope you find the school that fits your needs.

Dont get discouraged.Maybe they are jealous or something.I think that inlaws should just but out.You are not a bad mom for wanting to better yourself.I dont think anyone is ever to old to go back to school. My husband is taking online courses and it is harder since he has to make time to do his homework and studies since he works full time and also we have 2 kids.My husband is 25 years old.I am thinking about going back to school but I feel my schedule is hectic right now with 2 kids(one is 3 years old and the other is 20 months). But thier are moms that do it.Even though thier lives are hectic.I used to live beside a married couple who were both going to school to be physicians assistants. And they had 2 kids.Thier youngest was 3 years old.And they managed to make time and everything. They are going back to Malayasia they told us before we moved after they graduate which would have been this May.They were the nicest people.I get discouraged at times but I think anyone can finf a way to make time to do it.It will be a challenge but you can do it.I think instead of the inlaws discouraging you they should be appreciative and volunteer to help out with watching the kids, ect.Goodluck in your decsison.

Who are these people? and why are they giving you advice. Just let me know who they are.. I'll take care of this- Just kidding. Try only one or 2 intro courses at a community college or adult education classes to get your feet wet. You just need to start slowly to get back into the routine of studying and keeping up with the reading. A study skills course may be a good idea for you as a start. I went back to school at 32 when my degree wasn't getting me the kind of job I wanted. I was a much better student at 32 than at 18 because I had grown up alot since going to college the first time.

Hello babygrl. It has been seven months since you first posted this discussion. I hope you have gone on and took some classes. In My opinion you should wear ear plugs when it comes to your in-lawa. You can be a very good mother and still go to college. It may take a while to get in the grove of studying again. If it was me I would start with one class at a time and the simplests ones you can take just to get in practice of studying again. People of all ages are goning to school theses days. I read where a lady of at least 80 was graduating this last spring. So you see age isn't limited to the very young.

Hello babygrl!(",) I think there should be no limit when it comes to going to school or learning because learning is a continuous process. You can try an informal education. There are also many online education in which you can enroll. Why not try enrolling in a cooking class or in arts and crafts. I think you will be able to enjoy such activities. Hope that even if you have been out of school for so long, you will still continue on learning and acquiring knowledge simply by reading or in any forms that you like. Take care and God bless always!(",)

Your never to old! My friend (whos 17) her mom just went back because she wanted to change coureers and she was in her late fourties! Dont feel discouraged, not at all. People of many ages go back, theres never an age limit.
