I had been coughing for a month, went to the nearest clinic for medication which does not work for me.
Eventhough the doctor had given me cough syrup ( the black thick goey substance) and a strap of pills for reducing the phlegm, I was still coughing my chest out that had hurt my tonsils.
Sometimes, I could spit out phlegm with strike of blood that scared me to death!
Finally, I found online that this home remedy worked out to reduce the phlegm and cough irritation.
All you have to do is bring to boil 2 cups of water, toss in 1 stick of cinnamon, a couple slices of ginger and 1 tbsp of honey.
Once the brew had reduce to 1 cup, turned brownish in color, transfer to a small bowl, sip slowly to feel the awful minty liquid into your throat.
I did cough up a hairball of thick phelgm, I felt that I had coughed up my liver !!
Do you have any home remedy for coughs?

I also do that, ginger brew or what we Filipinos call " salabat" mixed with honey and native lemon. There are also times I use turmeric or yellow ginger brew mixed with native lemon, you are right, sometimes it's better than expensive medicine.

@peachpurple actually it's yellow ginger, Filipinos call it " dilaw" which is also our word for yellow. The native lemon would make it yellower.

Yeah.. it's called "kaadha" in India. Just boil some basil leaves, lemon grass, cloves, ginger, peppercorns, boil till you get a brownish liquid. Now take it off the stove. Pour it into a glass and drink it hot slowly.
