Mumbai lost to Pune for lack of patience.

May 16, 2017 7:33pm CST
Pune reached finals of IPL by defeating Mumbai by 20 runs. They scored 162 runs for loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. Mumbai scored 142 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs. Pune showed huge patience on a slow wicket. Rahane, Manoj Tiwari got half centuries and anchored the innings. Dhoni blasted the last 2 overs hitting 5 sixes to give competitive score. Mumbai messed up the chase. They should have kept wickets. Instead Rohit Sharma, Rayadu, Pollard did harakiri, tried to force the ball got out early. Mumbai never recovered from there. Parthiv Patel played a good innings.

Pune has a very balanced team and they have calm coach like Stephen Fleming and one of the coolest players in world cricket Mahendra Singh Dhoni , and that combination along with likes of captain Steve Smith, Rahane gels well. Pune team has utilized their resources to optimum and made sure that they always play according to the pitch conditions. I was not sure why Mumbai were playing reckless cricket inspite of loosing 3 quick wickets.

Thanks Avinashji, back after sometime, yes Pune had played the waiting game. Sunil Gavaskar had said, if one player in T20 attacks, the other player should anchor the innings, Pune has Rahane, Manoj Tiwari to anchor while Dhoni, Smith can attack. Most teams are doing the other way and are losing.

@sathviksouvik Yes, Pune team has never gone for making 200+ totals. They are playing to their strengths, and they believe they they can defend 160-180 totals.

@avi256 Yes, Avinashji, Pune did not win any IPL. If they win it this time, it will be first time.
