My Voting Plans For Our Pending General Election

On the 8th June 2017 Britain goes to the polls again. Many here will be heartily sick of elections after our Brexit votes, local council elections, and now a general election, some years before one is actually needed. Teresa May’s Tory Government cynically yet realistically hope to exploit their inexplicably positive standing in the polls to ensure a huge majority that will let them do pretty well anything they like until 2022 when they will have to go to the polls again. Policies aside, the very sense of impending tyranny as the already weakened by indecisiveness, defeats and infighting, opposition parties (aside from Nicola Sturgen’s strong Scottish stance), means we could be soon living under a dictatorship in all but name. Many may say we already are. Labour has a lot to offer if its Manifesto rings true, a promise of an end to austerity, re-nationalization, and more investment in our crippled health and education areas. The Tories have consistently put the rich before the poor. Though they claim bogusly that unemployment figures are down, the number of homeless people, those earning less than the minimum wage, on zero hours contracts and using food banks (even when actually employed in many cases) is increasing. May’s repulsive no question asked toadying up to the appalling US Trump administration and her appalling bullying stance towards Europe could yet prove her undoing or greatly shrink the vast majority she covets. I hope so. My vote will certainly be for Labour. Arthur Chappell

@arthurchappell I'll start the 8th of June by exercising my democratic right and duty. Unfortunately as a resident of South Belfast my little X won't have any impact on Westmister. I'll then sit awhile and reflect in a café then have lunch with colleagues. I'll transport one of my daughter's to vote so long as she promises to vote the right way. She votes at the last minute because it takes her all day deciding what to wear for such an occasion.

@arthurchappell She spends a good deal of time assessing which candidate is the nicest looking and wondering which has the best teeth.

So sad that all of our countries are going the dictator route. Why I never wanted a business person ever to run our country, or at least a business person who puts business before the country. I guess we have had business leaders before, but they cared about our countries more than profits. In the infinite wisdom of modern humans, they think countries should be run like a corporation. The problem with that logic is 99 percent of corporations are dictatorships and not democracies. When is the last times someones boss asked the whole company to take a vote on what the company should do for the future of said company. Never, the top dogs make those decisions and the rest have to do what they tell them if they want a job. I am not sure why people want to be told how to live. Pretty much saying live like this or we will throw you out or lock you up. Maybe we will be nice and just make your life so miserable where you want to leave your birth country. Sad anyway you look at it.

@arthurchappell Indeed because they think they can profit off the situation. Some may just be scared, but at one time thought they could profit off the situation I am seeing this happen with the Trump administration and some of his staffers.

@crossbones27 then they get caught up in their own machinations too deeply to break free until it is too late

I'm glad May's party lost. That at least gives me some hope for the world, that along with the results of the French elections. I guess Putin doesn't get his way ALL the time.

@anniepa strictly speaking she won but at such cost and giving so much respect and support to the opposition that it has been treated as a defeat for her, deservedly so

Rumour has it some of the polling stations are being used as Primary Schools! The X here means little in the context of who's in power in Westminster, alas.

nowadays they tend to use churches and social clubs - as a child I loved elections because they meant a day off school

I will vote, despite the fact that Labour are bottom of the pile in my constituency. I think the last election went 1. Tories, 2. UKIP, 3. Liberal Democrats, 4. Labour. I don't know anybody who admits to voting for the Conservatives, but know an awful lot of people who will vote Labour. And yet, the Tories will still win and they will gloat and we will lose our NHS and education standards will slip even more and more people will end up on the breadline and then everybody will cry, How did this happen?! ... *breathes*

Of course, if we let them take food and health care away from the poor soon there won't be any of them left to be bothered with. DISGUSTING!
