Since I am signed up on another discussion board (and it is not a paying site. Just for information and discussion!), I am notified whenever there is anything new to read on my feed. So, I get this e-mail and they are discussing an ancient custom where people offered/ offer their wives to the guests as a welcome sign. Apparently to improve the gene pool. It was an interesting read. (I am adding the link below if anyone interested to read it) This had me curious about other bizarre/ weird traditions/ customs like that. Out of them, there were some that stood out: (well to me they did while others I have had read or heard about at some point of my life.) 1. Dancing with the dead (Literally): It stands out because (shivers) dead and I do not mix well. I can NOT handle being in the same space with a dead body. 2. Throwing babies down a 50 feet high (almost 5 storey buildings) temple: This angers me because dude.....whatever sort of faith or belief have you do this to a baby (newborn at that) you seriously have several screws loose in your head. 3. Finger cutting to mourn the significant other: Eh...? (Photo by Pixabay)

@TiarasOceanView It is just a picture I picked from Pixabay. It suited the post content. Ugh! People I swear. SMH! So weird. Where the heck they get all these bizarre ideas? This actually reminds me of "Phallus worship in Bhutan". I recently discovered that.

@Daljinder Yeah I remember seeing it on the TV once and I really was annoyed by it. I don't understand why people do these kind of stuff.

The first anecdote made me think at the "right of the first night" that had the feudal lords in many European countries during the Middle Age : the lord had the right to spend the wedding night with the wife of his vassals/servants. Although some lords might have taken this "right"(which was a custom) seriously, most of the time they were just entering in the bedroom and not in the bed, and it was a good thing for the wife, because the husband could not ask anymore for an annulment of marriage because his wife would not have been a virgin when he married her.

There's another one that I ran into when I saw the movie Braveheart. It seems the custom back then was for the Saxon lord to sleep with the bride of a couple on his estate before the groom.
