Favorite "Sun" Songs #3 - "Center of the Sun"

It's a sunny morning here in Manitou, which means it's time for #3 in my Favorite "Sun" Songs series: "Center of the Sun" by Conjure One. Started in 1997, Conjure One is a project headed by Delerium's Rhys Fulber. With Conjure One, Fulber follows the same formula that he and Bill Leeb use in Delirium: creating lush, electronic, often Middle Eastern-oriented soundbeds, and using various female vocalists as singers (although Fulber does, occasionally, utilize male vocalists, including himself.) From Conjure One's 2002 self-titled debut, "Center of the Sun" was released as a single in 2003, and features Poe on vocals. There are a few remixes floating around out there, including a groovy one from Junkie XL, but it's the album version that I think is best. Poe had signed possibly the worst contract in music history, and was not allowed to make music for years after getting dropped by her label. She broke that contract by performing two songs on the album (she also appeared on Conjure One's second album, Extraordinary Way, credited as "Jane.") Hopefully, she will be collaborating with Fulber for years to come. "Center of the Sun" is absolutely beautiful. I did get to meet Rhys Fulber after a Delirium show. Really nice guy. This is indeed so beautiful..I bet to hear this on a really awesome sound system would be fabulous. It reminds me of Sade sort of too.

@TiarasOceanView - I love Sade. This is her band without her. Good stuff.

A lot of those stinking contracts exist. I seem to remember that Gerry Rafferty was prohibited from recording for three years after leaving Stealer's Wheel because of one of them. And yes, this is a good song.

What a shame. Could you imagine what Rafferty could have done with those three years?

I like this one, I could image hearing this in the back ground of a good movie.
