For about four years now my daughter has had a checking account. She never ordered any checks and does not have a register book which is free, just uses her debit card. But for some reason her emails from the bank come into my email account. My account is at the same bank, but we have separate accounts. I asked her to change the email account too. But she did not and I even picked her up a free register book and she never used it. Also I advised her to order at least the smallest order of the checks just in case she would need them. But she did not follow thru with any of these things. This morning I got an email from the bank for her and I called her. She told me that her roommates mother told her that she should get checks and a register. All of the sudden now it is a good idea!!!!!! I have told her about other things and she kinda' just shrugs it off. But when someone else tells her that then all of the sudden it is a good idea. Does this happen to you too?

Yep but you do need a register, there are some stores that do not process your transaction right away. Then you think you have more money in your account and spend it. Then you end up with a bounce fee. Believe it or not there are some places that will not take the card or phone or via online and you have to send them a check! When I ran out of checks I had to go buy a money order.

@Courtlynn That is good we have the opt too available, but not enough money to do that, lol. But I pay attention to but usually Target and a few other stores do not process right away as pending in the banks.

@dfollin not here. Lol. Ive had my bank account for 5 years. And my boyfriends mom works at the bank company i have. And many people dont use checks or bank books. My mom only uses checks to pay our rent. Otherwise she uses her bank card too. And you can opt out of overdraft. So that you cant go over what you have. I just pay attention to what i have and what i use.

I have a friend like... only believes things if someone else, especially a man, tells her the same thing.

My two sons also have that same thing and use debit cards. I just can't help but think these cards are such a bad idea. My brother has had money stolen twice from his account and my one son has had it happen once. Cash and checks are so much better. Now my son gets it and is going to cut up his card and cancel it with the bank and go to cash and checks.
