Hiding in a Tree

My kids are on their summer break as of today so, since I have much more free time in the morning before work, I'm starting to take a walk before even getting in the car to head to the office.
This walk takes me through the park up the street from my house. There's not a huge selection of wildlife there but there are definitely plenty of squirrels like this one I saw hiding up in a tree.

Isn't that early that they are vacation in May? Isn't vacation for kids usually in June.
