18 carat gold ring

I have come into possession of a heavy gold ring in 18 ct. gold. I understand that the ring was a gift to one of my ancestors, most probably from a WWII airman. On the outside of the ring is a faint inscription that reads PRO PATRIA....(the dots indicating more lettering that has worn off the engraving) On the inside of the ring are two names, Lt. A.K.K CRESSY and Lt. A.K.L. WARSPITE. Can anybody give me any idea of how I could trace the history of this ring?? Thank you
