Birds Building A Nest

I need some advice. At my clients house, and birds are building a nest on the lights of her carport. Does anyone know anything she can do. I just came in from sweeping the dirt from the lights. She wants to use ant spray. Any heads up.

I didn't think so. She had me hang a pair of black pants over the lights. She is furious.
