Finding your native american roots

I would like to know how to trace my roots? I can trace the one part of native american, which is the nansemond tribe of Suffolk Viriginia.. but my cherokee roots are not soo easy. can anyone give some much appreciated advice?

HELLO I too am Native american. and have been catching h@ll trying to get my Tribal card. my great grandparents were rural people and didnt deal with society at all. they never had ssn or even birth certificate. they lived on their own land and farmed and had herbs for sickneses so other than pictures there isnt any proof or record of there existence however they were full blooded cherokee. I will claim my heritage by mouth till i die. sorry for rambling.
