Hopefully, this series, if nothing else " brings up some good old MTV memories. We are at #8 in my Favorite Videos that aren't "Thriller" countdown: "One Step Beyond" by Madness.
The video, directed by Chuck Statler, was Madness' first, and suffice it to say it's one of the funniest music video's I've ever seen. First of all, "One Step Beyond" is an energetic ska tune, about as pumped up as ska gets. The onstage portion of the video was filmed at a live gig in Islington, England. The band exudes as much enthusiasm as befitting such a stomper. Plus, a couple of guys go OFF, dancing in the streets. It was obviously made tongue in cheek, and it worked. It's a very funny video.
A friend and I used to watch MTV all day, just waiting for this video. And why not? There are no special effects, and it's not trying to tell a story. This is just good, old fashioned, high energy ska. With a hilarious video!
