Unplugged- I put my phone away for awhile

Today I went shopping. I only intended to run into the store to pick up a few essentials. I didn't feel like taking my big purse in with me so I just grabbed my wallet. I purposely left my phone in the car too. Well I picked up my food items, but then I decided to also shop for clothes while I was there. It took me a while to search for what I wanted, find my size, etc. As I approached the dressing room area, I suddenly thought "Oh, I've been in here at least 30 minutes! It's going to take awhile to try on these clothes too. Maybe I should go get my phone first..." Then it occurred to me- being without my phone for thirty minutes or even an hour is not really an issue. I mean, my husband knew where I was shopping (just in case). I realized that I felt kind of free without that phone! It was a good break. I'm old enough to remember the days when you would just have to miss calls when you left your house. No biggie. Now I think I'll leave my phone behind more often. It doesn't need to be a constant part of my anatomy! I'll probably tell my most important people when I decide to take a break, just so they won't worry if they try to contact me. What do you think? Could you be "unplugged" once in a while?

Good that you had a unplugged version :-) it depends on the person and how occupied you are. For me, I guess I would be lost.. may be I should try it now..

@BloggerDi - oh I see.. then you need it most. Could I suggest you something which is 20:20:20 rule. Every 20 minutes, break off from the system and stand by your window side and look out away around 20 meters for 20 seconds. This will help us to charge our eyes from the monotonous computer work. Let me know if you like this and works out ...! :-)

Thanks for your comment @smileyhema. I work from home on my computer, so that's another reason it's good for me to have a break sometimes from my phone-computer.

@chooseyourmissy1234 Yes! Well said. Much of what I do is out of habit, not actual need! Thank you.

It is refreshing. I have accidentally left my phone behind a couple of times and except for minor inconvenience. the world didn't end. and since no one calls me anyway.. I never missed a thing.

Yes who needs it. I don't have a phone with me most of the time. Good you had a break from it. Yes those were the days I remember too. Though they do come in handy for emergencies.

I sometimes let the phone ring, if it is not family, and let the caller leave a message.

Half the time I don't even hear my phone or text messages. I can certainly live without it.

Generally, I do not do it, I also advise others not to do this mistake. Sometimes, we may miss vital information or communication. We should not repent later which is of no use.

Hi @shivamani10. For some people and situations, keeping the phone close is more important. For example, I was the full-time caregiver to my mother-in-law for a few years.(She had serious health problems) Sometimes I had to run an errand while she was sleeping. But I never traveled very far from the house and I ALWAYS had my phone by my side.

There isn't great reception at our house soo i have to go to certain areas of the house to even use it, so yeah i stay unplugged most of the time, or with limited connectivity.

Might be just as well! Thanks @thislittlepennyearns. I'm not glued to mine constantly like some people, but I do allow it to be too much of a distraction, too often.
