I was liking Pumpkin when it is kept in Sambar. In most parts of Southern India, the Pumpkin Seeds are widely used in Sambar (a food item eaten with Rice). It gives rich taste to the item itself. In Tamilnadu, it is widely used in almost all dishes. During Sankranti festival, this is offered to a Brahmin priest and his blessings are sought.
A sweet Halwa is also prepared with Pumpkin which will be in great in taste.
The seeds are pumpkin will be light grayish in color and will be somewhat bigger in size. The cover is removed and the content inside of it is eaten in the Indian households as a good time-pass item in the afternoons watching a T.V and sipping a cup of coffee. Many people consider the seeds as only the things of time pass. But these are really rich sources of nutrients needed for good health. The seeds can be considered as the packets of nutrients required for overall health.
The seeds are a rich source of Magnesium which is required for a healthy heart.
They are having good amount of Zinc which is required good immune system
The Omega-3 fatty acids which are required to control the Cholesterol in the body is sufficiently provided by the Pumpkin seeds
For a healthy and restful sleep, the Tryptophan which is required is also provided by the Pumpkin Seeds.
Next time when you break a Pumpkin do not throw the seeds away. Keep them in a Mason jar after washing and drying them thoroughly in the sunlight.
