Coming in at #6 in my Favorite Videos that aren't "Thriller" series is a band making their second appearance in one of my music countdowns: the Beastie Boys, with their Beavis and Butt-Head approved video, "Sabotage." The video for the Beastie Boys' 1994 single, "Sabotage," was directed by Spike Jonez. The clip honors television's 1970's cop action/drama shows. The Beastie's, in full 70's clothing, hairstyles, and, especially, mustaches, play fictional actors playing cops in a TV show called "Sabotage." Much like the music (which the Beastie Boys played themselves,) the video (the "show's" opening credits) is energetic, with lots of hot cop action. (How much hot cop action was too much hot cop action? A knife fight, a man falling from a bridge, and a man being thrown from a moving vehicle were all cut from the video.) "Sabotage" was nominated in five categories at the 1994 MTV Music Video Awards, but came away with nary a win. The video did, however, receive a lot of airplay on MTV, helping to propel the single to #18 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. And, as I mentioned, Beavis and Butt-Head thought it was cool.
